Dry Skin Care Tips PDF Print E-mail

As we get older, our skin has a tendency to get drier and drier, and the problem of dry skin comes in. Gone is the smooth and soft skin that you were once proud of. You will be facing another skin disorder that is brought about by the aging process. So how can we prevent this dreaded dry skin condition?

When we are young we take our soft skin for granted, but as the years add up, we think more and more about dry skin care. There are a few ways to help alleviate the problem of dry skin, and it will be up to you to decide what is right for your skin care needs. Budget and time will both decide what you can and cannot do.

One great tool in dry skin care is to drink plenty of water each day. Our bodies are composed mostly of water, and it goes without saying that we should make sure we get as much as we need each day. Drinking enough water each day will not only help with dry skin care, it also helps all the other systems of your body to work efficiently.

Other treatments for dry skin are those skin products available on the market today such as lotions. There are lotions that are specifically made for dry skin. Their prices vary according to their types and brands. Though expensive lotions tend to work effectively, there are still affordable ones that may work for your skin. The secret lies in knowing what your skin needs, and getting the right product.

There are other things you can do for your dry skin care that won’t cost you a penny. If you live in an area that has cold, dry winters, you need to learn how to take care of your skin during those months. A hot shower may feel wonderful on your skin, but it is drying it out at the same time. Opt for warm showers, and use your lotion directly after that shower while your skin is still wet. Also avoid using harsh detergents, as they may irritate your skin and dry it out.

Other factors that cause dry skin are environmental and lifestyle related ones. One example of these is smoking. Smoking will not only make your skin dry, it will also give you wrinkles, which will make you look older than your actual age. Smog and other pollutants in the air also affect your skin, but most often, we cannot manage protecting our skin from this.

Exposure to the sun’s damaging rays is also one thing that will give you dry skin. A sun-damaged skin will affect the amount of moisture your skin can hold. To avoid this, always put on a sunscreen before doing any outdoor activities. This will also lower your risk of getting skin cancer.

These are just some of the ways to acquire a baby soft, baby smooth skin. Just like any other skin problems, dry skin can be prevented if proper care and attention are given. As they said “beauty is skin-deep”, so keep that skin glowing and radiant always!
